A homeopath friend sent me a URL that discusses depth of disease. http://www.homeopathiceducation.com/volume2chapter21.php This is my reply to her.
Herscu's theory is based on clinical evidence drawn from Autstic-like symptoms, not all diseases. He specializes in children. You have to read his book to understand. The authors who you cite do not appear to have read his book Stramonium and the other MM of childre's remedies. They are not his students and don't understnad where he is coming from. I don't think they are very helpful, but we would have research their references to judge.
To me organizing analysis into specific disease types is reasonable. Going off into huge theoretical consructs is dangerous.
In reference to the above site, "Geistes-Krankheiten has dominated much of homeopathy (in the form of keynote and essence prescribing, leading to Sankaran's higher reaches of state-based prescribing") and less explored deep disease states (Wesens-Krankheiten)" is interesting. fl
I am interested in problems that I have with HFA. But is the problem because of deep disease?
Herscu supplies us with a simple flow chart in describing the depth of disease in the specific case of autism-like symptoms. (Stramonium p. 25) I have added some other remedies that appear in his writings. They are not his additions, so use with caution please.
Let me describe the movement between layers in the treatment of autistic-like symptoms. I will mention, HFA(Grant Bentely), Herscu (Stramonium and Children's remedies). They are teacher who I highly respect and use there analysis together and also apart. They have no relationship to one another except they both tend toward larger more general rubrics.
I am successfully treating an autistic case that fits Herscu's analysis. Infant - Rhus-Tox did not fit HFA. A 4 yrs old (HFA fits rx not mentioned by Herscu but the later remedy Stram is in the same family as the Dulc that was helpful from age 4-7) and now at age 7 Stram is certainly working.
Maybe I should have been using Stram instead of Dulc, but Dulc was at least partially curative. Stram came out very clearly with the classical symptoms at age 7. It was less clear at age 4 and I had less confidence than now. Maybe Herscu or Grant Bentely would have given Stram from the beginning.
Family history is also involved. The father went from Lyc, Ars (not HFA fits to the facial features), Phos HFA, Tub (fits HFA and Herscu). The father's level 2 autistic-like symptoms are much more severe his son's. They are much more suppressed. Interestingly, the suppression is emotional not drug related.
When Herscu becomes relevant, the sx are deeper, more like autism at level 2. The cases start out with more superficial sx and go deeper as Herscu pictures it.
Don't know what G. Vithoulkas would say, but his level analysis is certainly helpful. You (my homeopath friend) know what I mean by low level autism. The little boy is probably closer to level, 1 so even if his symptoms are autism-like, he is easy to treat. The father started treatment 7 years ago at a mild level 3 and is now worse level 2. (I am afraid to use hierarchical words like upper higher ect because I fear confusion).
Other problems with HFA ia simply I am not able to finish the cure with 1 or 2 remedies. HFA does not seem to be enough. Maybe, Shahrdar or Herscu type analysis are needed. Maybe I lack the tools. Not finishing the case also involves difficulties with case management, and the patient't own life difficulties. I sense that life is not perfect for any of us.
