Why make green smoothies?

Green smoothies are the key to powering up my currently sad immune system.  Go on the youtube and you can see how to make them.  Below I have a review of the videos that I saw.  Tell me if you see others.
But, it did not take much for me to understand why raw would work better than cooked.  Raw foods are my king pins to recovering from bronchitis.  I don't want to wait around to recover for months.  I have already spent three weeks in bed.  The key issue is the function of emzymes.

Enzymes make the chemical functions of your body more efficient.  Isn't there something that you add to gasoline that makes it more fuel efficient?  There are lots of that kind of chemical boosting that goes on in your body functions.  If you have been sick or on a lot of drugs, all of those functions are going to need a boost.  Many of them are broken.

The following two videos on how to make a smoothie don't tell you that those raw veggies are really good to get the enzymes working in your body.  The video that tells you about all of that is a bit long yet entertaining, if you have time.  It is good to learn about why because you are not going to continue doing something that has no clear value.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXcop0VOT2o  Longer expert but fun talk about the use of enzymes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXcop0VOT2o   Shorter talk of why eat raw foods

After you begin to feel the results, maybe you should go back and watch those videos.  Long term increase of raw foods will bring in the big earnings.

The raw veggies that you normally cook like squash or even carrots are really much more powerful raw.  Grind up the skin, seeds, but maybe leave out the stem of the apple. If you are going to bother paying more for organic veggies, at least get the most out of them.   Also, you can get more veggies in a smoothie without a lot of calorie rich dressings.

Then there is the tooth fairy aspect of feeding your loved ones. Good way to be kind to your spouse and kids.  Make some for them too.  Benefits for yourself rule?   It is easy and you can make a pitcher full and drink it throughout the day.  Good way not to snack.

If you are trying to reduce weight or suffering from diabetes also, then smoothies heavy in sugar content are not going to help you.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fe5VHp8QA2k  She talks also about how to reduce sugar cravings.

I have not found a video about choosing appropriate fruits.   If your body temperature is too low, then fruits that grow in Northern climates are going to keep you warmer.  You will have lower body temperature.  If you are weak and have been sick a lot, even if you sweat and feel hot on the surface of your skin, probably you are cold at your core.  So, tropical fruits are probably not the best option if you live in a cold climate.

Buying organic veggies can be expensive.  Of course, you can use non-organic veggies.  Budgeting is always an issue.  How much added cost will work for your budget?  Think that out, instead of compulsively buying.  The highest level of nutrients will come from dark green veggies.  They are not hard to grow yourself, so you can guess that the farmers also don't need as much fertilizer and pesticides.  Fruits are really hard to grow organically.  But you can't eat the skin if you buy non-organic fruits.  The slippery non-organic apple skin are particularly disgusting to me.  So, I splurge there.

The other way to get cheap organics greens is to sprout them.  If the the weather permits, I like to plant seeds instead of sprouting indoors.  It is just a lot less trouble.  Again here is a fun and detailed but long discussion of sprouting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHUXUpKuWPI

There is not much to making smoothies and there are many videos on how to do it.  This video tells you what is essential to making a tasty smoothie and how you can fail.  Interestingly, she is not saying add lots of sweet fruits.  She tells you that the fruits make the smoothie smoother.

  1. My friend emailed me her comment. She does not understand that in Asia, it is common sense that cold feet happen because all the blood is in the head. It is a physical response of the body. There is only so much available blood and it is unevenly distributed in the head.
I indeed have soaked my feet in hot water to get them to warm up. So
interesting your theory which is probably not a theory...that too much
thinking cause cold feet. Not enough action cause cold feet. Have cold feet,
won't travel. You know that American expression....getting cold feet....afraid
to do something? The old Shakespeare question...to be or not to be. To act or
not to act. But to go into the kitchen and wait for the water to heat up and
to go and get a towel from the bathroom and to slowly wait for your feet to
get used to the hot water...that is an ACT and it works, the feet get warmer.
