Author: Wes Jones. Title: Cure Constipation now; a Doctor's fiber theory
Dr, Jones says you have to use laxatives and chemically treated fibers in the beginning of treatment just to begin to get the entire intestines moving. The intestines are a muscle, but if you are constipated, they are over stretched and not moving thus they become weak. If there is a block in one area of the intestines, continuous movement of the entire "tube" is impossible. Without continuous movement of the entire intestine, strengthening of the wall is difficult. Since the need for laxatives is shorten by intensive and regular use of fibers which absorb water and thus increase the bulk of the stool, naturally the stool will be propelled down the intestines.
During the last month I only have used a mix of magnesium and psyllium to move my bowel. So I take it several times during the day. Dr. Jones says, if you take natural fibers in the beginning of treatment, because your intestines are chronically blocked, you produce gas. Because of the gas, you also avoid the natural fibers. Also, you need to take the fiber 2 times per day. I take natural fibers twice a day, and as a result I am up at 12:30 am with gas. I never have gas up until now. So he is right. The natural fiber in this large amount causes me to produce gas.
He says if you use an artificial fiber, the intestines tighten up and slim down because you start pushing out much more stool throughout you entire intestines. If you don't, you should be taking laxatives. You should stay ahead of impending constipation by using laxatives and also by flushing out with warm water enema. With regular use of the artificial fiber, you can prevent the intestines from getting blocked by stool.
I am writing this mainly because I am having a hard time imagining the program and also because I need to know what to buy to start the program. So just ignore all the names of drugs below and read the book.
MY PLAN
My plan is to buy this bare minimum list of supplies to complete the treatment. I plan to follow it closely for 2 weeks using the artificial products, gradually weaning to natural products judging from the amount of stool that I am able to produce.
1. Citrucel tablets 320 per bottle $20
2. NuLytely an artificial laxative
3. Douche bottle $30
4. Magnesium citrate powder
5. Powered psyllium powder

AVAILABLE PRODUCTS
Stage 1 Artificial fiber
Citrucel Or Benefiber (Wheat extract) EZ fiber have are good only for 6 months. (Don't block up your intestines with natural fibers because you will get gas instead. The intestinal flora can't ferment the artificial fiber thus it works better than the natural one that actually can clog the intestines if they are weak. Strive for 3-5 foot stools daily or 1 quart daily) Small doses of the artificial fibers and work up. Twice daily. Every week he increases the artificial fiber by one tablespoon. There is a great variety of measurement depending on what you use for fibers. Like you are married to the program of 2 times daily. Put the boxes near the toilet and on the kitchen counter to remind yourself. Later Metameucil and other natural products (stage 2. He likes cereals like all bran for the fiber)
Douche bag 30-40 dollars as a more extreme form of constipation when the laxatives don't work. Use aggressively with warm water.
Osmotic Laxatives: (use the laxative when the fibers seem too much.)
Colyte (polyethylene Gloycold (drink 3-4,NuLytely, TriLyte and MoviPres more palatable than colyte) and then enema replacing Milk of Magnesia or Magnesia Citrate, magnesium tablets in the stubborn case. To be taken daily is also possible for the following. MixaLax, lactulose, prune juice, prunes). Good laxative include Sorbitol. Magnesium causes the least gas because it cannot be absorbed, no matter how long you use it. Also, an antacid and good for bones. Grape juice following magnesium products to correct the bad taste. Rare magnesium toxicity for the kidney. Generic brands for Benefiber, Citrucel and Mialax
Week 1 - 6-10 inch stools or two stools daily. Take laxatives as needed and fibers two times daily. He is a big fan of Magnesium. Diarrhea is a sign that you need more laxative or enema to increase the emptying.
Irritant laxatives Ex-lax, Herb-lax, Colon Cleanse, Dulcolax and Correctol.
Lactulose and Miralax.Glycolax (are pricey)
Fleet enema is not as effective as water enema. Warm water enema will go up the colon higher. Routine laxative can undermine the body’s calcium level. So he does not recommend OsmoPrep and Viscol as purgatives.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE TREATMENT STAGES
Stage 2 - Natural fibers and laxatives can start here (above) along with the artificial fibers (above) He goes into details of the lack of fiber in current bread flour. Don't go to this step until you have consistent bathroom results with the above artificial fibers of Step 1. No bathroom odors or gas allowed at this step.
Stage 3 - Again you are getting consistent results with Stage 2. Any failure and consider going back to an earlier stage. Don't stop laxatives suddenly or feel you have to stay off them. The older you are and the less active you are the more laxatives are needed. The bathroom results tell you where you should be in the program.
Look on Amazon to see what people say who have tried the program. The negative experience is interesting because his claim that the artificial fiber will be useless after 6 months has to do with giving the intestinal bacteria exposure to an artificial fiber product so it can evolve to "learn" to digest the artificial fiber. I have found tablet versions of Citrucel, an artificial fiber. This has no artificial sweeteners additives.
