The large intestines has the greatest impact on our immune system. Anything that helps with digestion in the large intestines will support the immune system. By eating green smoothies, I will increase my consumption of raw veggies. Raw veggies provide enzymes that are useful in digestion.
Fibers are a second contribution that green smoothies make to my immune system strength. Fibers from the smoothies can be divided into two types:
Most of the bacteria in the intestines are helpful to us. We have a synergistic relationship with them. The soluble fibers from my green smoothies can be used by the bacteria to help them to multiply. Water soluble fibers can also help to control type two diabetes. Some green smoothie ingredients that contain soluble fibers include nuts and seeds, apples pears, strawberries, blueberries.
Insoluble fibers of other veggies provide bulk and reduce pressure in the gut. That is they prevent problems such as diverticulitus. However, they do not feed the helpful bacteria. These include carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, celery and tomatoes.
